The Media Awareness Project
How To Become An Active Member of MAP
( Please send any questions/comments to )

The Media Awareness Project collects illicit drug policy articles from newspapers, magazines, and the Web and places them into the largest online archive on the topic, drugnews.org. DrugSense established the MAP archive as a knowledge base to track drug policy and enable activists to respond to inaccurate, biased, or sensationalized coverage.

NONE of this would be possible without our team of dedicated volunteers!

There are two main volunteer activities - Letter Writers and Newshawks.
  • Newshawks search for articles related to illicit drugs and illicit drug policy for placement in our Drugnews Archive.
  • Letter Writers respond to these articles using the contact information located at the top of the article.

  • There are, of course, many other media outlets and we are working on ways to influence them. We would love to hear your ideas/suggestions!

Other Activities You Can Engage In

  • Recruiters. Visit news groups, E-mail chat lists, and other sources for large groups of reform minded people and encourage them to visit our web pages, subscribe to our DrugSense Weekly newsletter and to get involved.

  • Fundraisers. YOU can play an important role in ending the War on Drugs by Donating to DrugSense or finding others to do so! Financial contributions from individuals like you make up a significant portion of our annual operating budget.

  • Start a local reform group in your state or country. If you have 20 people who will help engage in local or state efforts similar to the above types of activities we will provide a free E-mail list to coordinate your groups activities and provide guidance to get you started. Once you get going we will also create and support a web page for your group. All at no charge to your organization.
