Re: The recent study released suggesting early use of marijuana contributes to the danger of suffering testicular cancer. Would it be crass of me to suggest that the letters editor will slip in all possible rebuttals penned by Russell Barth, the darling of anti-tobacco potheads? With sincere apologies to all those afflicted, some of them being my friends.

(We're not really sure what you're asking us to do, Doug.)

2 CN AB: LTE: Consideration For Those Who Are Addicted To TobaccoFri, 05 Sep 2008
Source:Edmonton Sun (CN AB) Author:Witherspoon, Doug Area:Alberta Lines:28 Added:09/07/2008

Traditionally, people enduring ongoing pain went to a doctor and received prescriptions for painkilling medication. That is how it was done. Since younger generations have come along with new ideas in almost all fields, it is now legal for special people to enjoy the use of "medical" marijuana. Or, if they are strident activists who believe they are a cut above the rest of us, they simply light up their joints on the steps of a legislature. A very large proportion of the younger generations use this illegal narcotic and officials turn a blind eye. Maybe similar consideration might be allowed for those who are addicted to tobacco.

(Pot prohibition is just absurd.)

The letter from Mr. Kirk Muse states that the U.S. drug policy is one of the main reasons for it being the most incarcerated nation in the world. That may be, but the spinoff is that the crime rates there have been reduced considerably.

(Dare we guess pot legalization supporters will be unmoved?)

4 CN AB: PUB LTE: Why Not Prescription?Sun, 01 Jul 2001
Source:Calgary Sun, The (CN AB) Author:Witherspoon, Doug Area:Alberta Lines:25 Added:07/01/2001

Isn't all this just an erosion of the existing laws, instead of easing the suffering of afflicted people? ( "Jury clears the air in medicinal-pot case," Licia Corbella, June 15.) Why can't pot be a prescription medicine just like other medicines?

Doug Witherspoon

(That would seem the logical approach. )
