Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi was honored Thursday by the National
Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws for his work in passing
legislation regulating medical cannabis clubs in San Francisco.

At its national conference in the city, the group awarded Mirkarimi
its Rufus King award, named after the Washington, D.C., attorney who
advocated the decriminalization of marijuana. The award honors
leadership in the reform of marijuana laws.

Last year, Mirkarimi crafted regulations allowing city pot clubs to
remain open in some locations while instituting controls to curb drug
dealing and other problems.
