POT CRUSADER SEEKS BAIL, PROMISES TO CURTAIL CLUB

Grant Krieger has softened his stance on growing marijuana to
distribute to others for medical reasons and will seek bail from a
higher court next week, his lawyer said Wednesday.

`I have his undertaking to not cultivate and distribute marijuana,'
Adriano Iovinelli said after discussing the issue with his client.

`Mr. Krieger is weak and deteriorating rapidly at the remand centre.
He lost a lot of weight and finally said, 8CI've got no choice.'
It's out of desperation.'

The pot crusader, who has multiple sclerosis and says he requires
marijuana on a daily basis, was arrested a week ago and charged with
cultivation of a narcotic and possession for the purpose of
trafficking after police discovered 29 plants in his home on Bowness
Road N.W.

Provincial court Assistant Chief Judge Brian Stevenson denied
Krieger's release last Friday when the marijuana advocate refused to
stop growing and supplying marijuana to other ill people through his
Universal Compassion Club.

Iovinelli said his client, who walked on his own when he went into
jail but now uses a wheelchair, will be at Court of Queen's Bench next
Wednesday to ask the court to reconsider his release.

`He has agreed not to participate in the Compassion Club,' said
Iovinelli.

`But he has not agreed to not use marijuana himself. He still needs
it.'
