YORK PROF GETS GREEN LIGHT ON LIGHTING UP

A York University criminology professor has been given the passing
grade to smoke up in his own private ventilated room on campus.

According to a story published on York's website, MacLean said he
needs to smoke marijuana at least every four hours to help treat a
severe form of degenerative arthritis.

Now that he has his own room to light up in, MacLean, who is
authorized by Health Canada to use marijuana, won't have to find
secluded areas on the Steeles Avenue and Keele Street campus to smoke.

"Now that we've gone through this, we can certainly make similar
arrangements should they be requested by someone else," said Alex
Bilyk, York's director of media relations.

This is the second professor at a Toronto university who was given the
green light to light up.

In September a University of Toronto professor, with an undisclosed
medical condition, was allowed to smoke up in a similarly designed
room.

About 1,500 Canadians are authorized by Health Canada to use marijuana
to help treat medical conditions such as chronic pain and nausea from
chemotherapy.
