Re: Plan targets serious drug offenders, Soundoff, Jan. 14 I find it interesting to note that the Canadian government has been accepting income tax payments from Marc Emery for the past few years. Apparently his source of income wasn't considered illicit by the tax man, but now that U.S. marshals have come knocking, our law man sees fit to intervene. I urge our federal government to protect Canadian sovereignty in these matters, although I see very little hope in this given Justice Minister Rob Nicholson's latest volley in the war on drugs. In his Soundoff, he explains that it may take a while to break Canadians' complacency towards illicit drugs. I find it odd that our public representatives would take a position counter to that of the majority of Canadians in this matter. Why do we need to be roused from our comfortable and healthy relationship with marijuana, and why does this government not protect a citizen of Canada when the crime he is being extradited for is not a crime in Canada, or at least is not considered dire enough to be prosecuted?
