City Vows To Keep Neighbors Better Informed Of Similar Projects In The Future

Lisa Van Hoosear said she won't let her 11-year-old daughter walk to the bus stop alone if a treatment home for teen-age boys with substance-abuse problems opens in her neighborhood.

Linda Harrah, who helped collect 50 signatures on petitions opposing the home, is unhappy with how LifeSteps Foundation and the county notified people about its proposed home.

The City Council on Monday agreed to send the county a letter offering to help develop guidelines for improving future communications with residents on similar issues.

17 Local Businesses Offer Donations For Anti-Drug Program

"Wow," 12-year-old Robert Dumdie said Thursday after the Grover Heights Elementary student got his first close-up look at the new Grover Beach Police DARE vehicle.

With red upholstery and lettering and shiny black exterior paint, "it really stands out. It really says 'DARE,'" he said about the 1985 Chevy S10 Blazer that city businesses donated and restored.

Tommy Fondren, 11, was impressed by the Drug Abuse Resistance Education lion painted on the side of the Blazer.

3 US CA: Police To Rejoin County Narcotics Agency After Six-YearWed, 16 Jun 1999

For the first time in nearly six years, Pismo Beach is about to join the county Narcotics Task Force.

The citys proposed fiscal 1999-2000 budget includes $20,000 for Pismo police to help fund and govern the task force.

Police Chief Dan Boon said it is time for Pismo to become a full member of the agency that fights major drug trafficking in the county.

Pismo quit the task force in 1993-94 based on a staff recommendation, said Boon, who joined the city in August 1995.
