Police are to tackle drug dealing in part of Kettering after residents threatened to carry out their own patrols.

People living in and around Arthur's Way, off Alexandra Street, said they would start policing the streets themselves because they are so frustrated about the problems in the area.

One resident said he was fed up with the constant break-ins, vandalism and drug-dealing in Arthur's Way, Alfred Street and Stuart's Close.

Now the Kettering North Central Safer Community Team has pledged to crack down on the problems and made it one of the priorities for the coming months.

Tenants have been evicted from their home after residents complained about drug dealing.

Drug use and dealing was highlighted as a problem by people living in the Louisa Drive area of Kettering and one man kept a diary of the disturbance it caused.

The Kettering North East Safer Community Team teamed up with the Orbit Housing Association over the last three months to try to tackle the issue.

As a result, some tenants were evicted from their house in Margaret Road but officers say they will continue to monitor the situation.

Schools Say Education and Awareness Is Key to Winning the Drugs Battle.

Head of Corby's Kingswood School David Tristram said: "It's a concern that I have. I would have my head in the sand if I did not realise there were issues concerning drugs in and out of school.

"What we do when there's an incident is to look at an individual case to see what the circumstances are."

Alan McMurdo, head of Prince William School in Oundle, said he had only permanently excluded one student for dealing drugs - cannabis about four years ago - and took a zero tolerance approach to illegal substances.
