Drug Prohibition Lies At The Heart Of Violence In Mexico.

When it comes to foreign affairs, Americans are used to debating progress or setbacks in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, or on the Israeli invasion last month of the Gaza Strip. We're used to thinking about death and destruction thousands of miles from home and, as a result, tend to debate these matters based more on glancing impressions, quick reads of newspapers and Web sites and sound bites rather than personal knowledge or the knowledge of those who live in the countries at issue.

First Year Back Successful For Drug Resistance And Education Program In Vidor School District

The questions that Jerry Parker fields sometimes may seem tough for someone to want to answer.

"Have you ever done drugs?"

"Did you ever drink? Why?"

But he answers every question he is asked truthfully, because the ones asking him are the same ones he feels are the most important for our future - children. Fifth graders to be exact.

And Parker, D.A.R.E. instructor for the Vidor Independent School District knows that they are looking to him for an example.

Former City Police Chief Brings Drug Prevention Program Back

VIDOR - Because a teenager using illegal narcotics is not something any school administrator wishes to see, the Vidor school district has brought back the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program to try to reach students at a younger age.

The D.A.R.E. program was originally taught in area schools by two certified officers within the Orange County Sheriff's Department, however, on Sept. 13, 2004, Orange County Commissioners officially abolished it, according to the county clerk's office.
