DRUG PROHIBITION HELPS ONLY COPS AND DEALERS

Editor, Times-Dispatch:

A heartfelt thank-you to Circuit Judge James A. Cales, Jr. ["Judge Lectures
Police on Drug Cases," August 22]!

Drug prohibition has done terrible violence to the Constitution and our
personal liberties far beyond any potential benefit from it. No one in law
enforcement or the judiciary honestly thinks drug prohibition is
accomplishing anything but the enrichment of law enforcement and the drug
suppliers, and it's about time our judges and juries stopped meekly going
along with it.

Send a message: Stop filling our prisons with people whose only "crime" is
sale and possession of contraband.

Brandon Blackmoor, Portsmouth.
