WHO'S SMOKING WHAT?

Toronto -- Re World O' Drugs (Social Studies -- June 23):

A Copernican revolution in editorial thinking! The suggestion that some of
France's greatest thinkers (but surely not England's?) were "high on pot"
should hardly come as a surprise: The low esteem in which we hold marijuana
is, historically speaking, relatively recent. What is surprising is that an
author from the Times of London would be quoted as saying that "the entire
basis of Cartesian thought -- the foundation of French intellectual life --
could be shaken."

Considering the achievements of our great but baked forefathers, shouldn't
it be the entire basis of the War on Drugs -- the foundation for the
vilification of cannabis -- that should be shaken?
