DEMOCRACY IN ACTION

Editor -- So now we learn that Gov. Davis will effectively block the
implementation of Proposition 215 by vetoing the bill to create a state
identification card for the users of medical marijuana. Davis' spokesman
said, ``Until the federal government legalizes its use or growing, state
government should not put itself in a position of sanctioning it.''
Governor, in a democracy it is the people who decide where the government
should position itself, and the people of California have already spoken on
this issue. Democracy, governor: Is that a foreign concept to you? Have you
heard of that before? If you cannot in good conscience facilitate the
realization of the will of the people of the state of California, as
expressed in lawful election, then you need to step down. If your first
loyalty is to Washington, then you must have forgotten where you are and
who put you there. Governor, whose side are you on? You need to dance with
them that brung you.
