OVER the past years, I have witnessed a lot of information for and against
the use of marijuana.

However, we will never know the "unmeasurable statistics" of families whose
lives are destroyed because either the parents or children are using
marijuana and other drugs.

I use the words "unmeasurable statistics" because of experiences and
circumstances as a parent and being a support person for parents and their

I have experienced that society is very quick to blame, use excuses,
assume, shift the responsibility and label parents as irresponsible.

Because of this, I can understand why it is better to keep it within the
family and behind closed doors so no one will ever know.

The good news is that more people are speaking out, but it is not enough.
Drugs are a community concern.

The development of reliable information regarding the harm marijuana does
to the mind of those who use it, grows continuously.

Unfortunately, some still believe the myth that it is a soft drug.

I urge all parents, children, grandparents, guardians and care-givers to
access the information, and if you are not yet convinced, then become
involved with the support of families experiencing the result of choices
made by others.

Available to the decision-makers is an accumulation of information
regarding irresponsible parents, but an insignificant amount regarding
responsible parents experiencing or who have experienced behavioural
changes with their children and other members of the family due to drugs.

Stand up and be heard. If we sit back and say nothing, the future
consequences will be devastating and it will be too late to blame anyone
but ourselves.

Use the available support avenues in Bundaberg for you and your family:
Bundaberg Caring Parents, Toughlove, PLEASE and any other support group who
does not support the use, or legalisation, of marijuana or any other drug.
