THIRD NY-NJ-CT NEWS REPORT

NYPD Declares War On Street Gangs

(NEW YORK) - The NYPD is reportedly launching an expanded, centralized squad
to target drug-peddling street gangs like the Bloods, Crips and Latin Kings.

According to the New York Post, the move will take anti-gang cops who work
independently and put them under a single umbrella division withing the
Organized Crime Bureau.

The Post reports that each borough will have a narcotics module, a detective
squad and a Street Crime Unit devoted solely to gang-busting. Police brass
hope the re-organization will lead to better information-sharing among the
cops and smoother operations.

The narcotics cops will concentrate on snaring gang members with
buy-and-busts... while the street-crime cops will target hangouts and other
trouble spots.
