PORKY'S CLOSES DOORS AFTER CHARGES LAID

Porky's shooting gallery, which has operated in Kings Cross for more than 10
years, has closed for good, its operator said yesterday after police charged
a person who worked there with aiding and abetting in the
self-administration of an illegal drug. The Kings Cross Patrol Commander,
Superintendent Bob Myatt, said he did not know of the charges, adding he
would not be able to discuss it as the topic was too sensitive.

The woman who operated the shooting gallery for many years, who would not be
named, said police charged one of her workers when someone who had used the
injecting rooms had overdosed and died a month ago.

"There were three people using the rooms and two of them overdosed," the
woman said. "He called an ambulance and we managed to save one, but the
other died on the way to hospital."

Porky's injecting rooms were closed just before the State election in March,
but reopened recently.
