NYC HEROIN USE REMAINS HIGH

(NEW YORK) - Heroin use in New York City remains high according to a
national report on the trends in drug use. The New York Times says the
report Pulse Check released by White House drug czar, Gen. Barry McCaffrey,
in New York City indicates more young people are trying heroin. The reports
also says that combining heroin with cocaine, a practice known as
``speedballing,'' is becoming more popular in New York. But Pulse Check
noted that the use of crack and powder cocaine in the Northeast is
declining.
