TEN INDICTED IN CRACK COCAINE RING

BOSTON, March 10 (UPI) - Federal authorities said today they have smashed
the major crack cocaine ring operating in Boston. A total of 10 suspects
were indicted on drug trafficking and money laundering charges. U.S.
Attorney Donald Stern says the gang acted as a wholesaler for some of
Boston's most violent street gangs and supplied ``crack'' to many of the
city's big public housing projects, like Orchard Park in Roxbury and
Bromley Heath in Jamaica Plain. He said it also operated in southestern
Massachusetts with dealers in Brockton and Taunton.

Authorities say the ring bought its drugs from suppliers in Boston and New
York City, smuggling the contraband into the state in hidden compartments
of cars and trucks.
