COP ADMITS DRUG CHARGES

WINDSOR -- A provincial police officer, who is an avid body builder and
trainer, admitted drug trafficking involving a muscle-building steroid
derivative and marijuana.

Const. Shaun Evans, 39, pleaded guilty yesterday to three counts of
trafficking Prasterone, one of possessing almost a kilogram of marijuana for
the purpose of trafficking, and six other charges.

Evans, suspended with pay since his arrest 15 months ago, was with the Essex
OPP detachment.

His lawyer Don Tait said he will probably resign from the force when he is
sentenced early next year.

Prasterone is also known as androstenedione or andro. Selling
androstenedione is illegal in Canada but not the United States, where sales
took off in 1998 after baseball star Mark McGwire said he was taking a
supplement containing the drug. Last August, McGwire said he had quit using
the supplement.
