220 KILOGRAMS OF HEROIN CONFISCATED AT ASTRAKHAN SEA PORT

MOSCOW, January 22 (Itar-Tass) - A total of 220 kilograms of heroin were
confiscated by border guards at the Astrakhan sea port on Thursday, sources
at the Russian Federal Border Service told Itar-Tass.

A plastic bag with one kilo of heroin was found in an inspection of a
vehicle brought from Iran by the Kristina ferry boat. The repeated
inspection of the car revealed 19 kilograms and, then, 200 kilograms of
heroin more. The driver, a national of Turkey, is detained and an
investigation is underway.

Back on January 4, 1999, six kilograms of heroin to a total cost of one
million dollars were confiscated from a smuggler from Tajikistan at
Moscow's Domodedovo airport.
