ASIAN CONFERENCE ON NARCOTICS TO BE HELD IN TOKYO

TOKYO, - Fifteen Asian countries and two
international organizations will hold a conference in Tokyo from Jan.
31 to address the problem of narcotics, the National Police Agency and
the Foreign Ministry announced Thursday.

At the four-day meeting, the U.N. International Drug Control Program
(UNDCP) is  expected to propose a new project including a Japan-led
plan to offer know-how  on narcotics, officials of the agency and the
ministry said.

The meeting will be held in the wake of the U.N. General Assembly's
special meeting last June that adopted resolutions aimed at reducing
illegal trade in narcotics over the next 10 years.

Among the countries that will take part in the conference are China,
Thailand, Myanmar and Laos. A total of 60 experts will attend the meeting.

The United States, Italy, Sweden and the European Union will also
attend as observers.
