STRIKE CLOSES OASIS RESORT HOTEL

ROSARITO BEACH -- The Oasis Resort Hotel was shut down yesterday by workers
on strike against some unusual bosses -- agents from the Mexican federal
Attorney General's Office.

Clamoring for back pay and benefits, several dozen employees -- waiters,
cooks, maids, clerks, reservations agents -- milled outside the hotel,
which looks like something out of the Arabian Nights, at the north end of
town.

The striking workers said guests were notified that their reservations had
been canceled. The hotel's phone number was out of order late yesterday.
The strike comes more than eight months after federal narcotics agents,
backed by the Mexican army, stormed the hotel.

The federal Attorney General's Office, which took over operations, has said
it has evidence that one of the hotel's owners is Manuel Aguirre Galindo,
alleged to be a top member of the Arellano Felix drug cartel.
