A Swiss prosecutor's decision not to try former Mexican President Carlos
Salinas' brother on drug charges but to keep almost $115 million he stashed
in European banks surprised and baffled Mexican commentators
Wednesday.Commentators were left to speculate why Switzerland gets to keep
Raul Salinas' fortune but won't press criminal charges.

"It's paradoxical that the Swiss authorities say they're not going to try
Salinas for drug trafficking but are nonetheless going to confiscate $114
million that he has in Swiss bank accounts,"wrote political commentator
Sergio Sarmiento in the newspaper Reforma.
