I turned on my car radio the other day and heard Rush Limbaugh head into one of his monologues about crime and depression (of the mental kind), and - yep, you guessed it - it's all Clinton's fault. Since I didn't want my own mind muddled by his verbal contortions, I don't know how he "explained" this. But I'm sure he didn't go on to talk about social and economic justice as the solution to crime - uh uh, that might take something from the rich. The double irony is that Rush Limbaugh and Bill Clinton are birds of a feather on this - "getting tough" on crime - but for different reasons: one economic, one political. Both wrong. Meanwhile, our own constitutional guarantees of justice are going down the drain. Would we really like to have our doors knocked down, dear reader, and our property confiscated without due process on the mere "suspicion" that we're dealing in drugs? Or to have our own son or daughter given a 10-year mandatory sentence in a federal prison for hardly more than just "knowing" about someone else's dealing? And - what was it? - something like 280 more reasons for being shot, hanged, electrocuted, or poisoned by injection, that President Clinton recently signed into law, heading us fast into a Third World mentality! And now Limbaugh is trying to outshow him? And in Texas, where - my, God!- they're trying to pass a law to execute 11-year-olds! Try to imagine - if you dare to dare your own sanity - one of these 11-year-olds as your own child. Hello? Charles W. Atterberg Hanover Park - --- Checked-by: Melodi Cornett
