WHAT ABOUT THE DRUG MULES, BARDOT ASKS GREECE

ATHENS, April 3 (Reuters) - French actress turned animal rights activist
Brigitte Bardot took Greece to task over the fate of 12 mules seized for
carrying two tonnes of drugs across the border with Albania last month.

``We wrote back to her that we sent the animals home to Albania after we had
a vet examine them,'' a public ministry spokesman told Reuters.

The mules, which had been trained to follow mountain paths across the
border, were loaded with two tonnes of cannabis when Greek police discovered
them on March 4.

Bardot, who has taken up the animal rights cause after giving up acting,
wrote to the Greek embassy in Paris, which relayed the letter to the Public
Order Ministry.

``The mules just followed the same path back to their owners in Albania.
That's one thing they know how to do,'' the spokesman said.
