POLICE SMASH DRUGS PIPELINE

DETECTIVES were celebrating today after smashing a multi-million pound
drugs and guns pipeline between Holland and Northern Ireland.

A south Armagh man was being questioned by gardai in connection with the
seizure of a major consignment of drugs and firearms in Co Monaghan.

A detailed search of a warehouse on the outskirts of Castleblaney was being
carried out today following the discovery of a submachinegun, 10 handguns
and 250 kilos of cannabis resin with a street value of UKP2.5m in the
premises last night.

The arms and drugs had been imported from Holland through Dublin and were
destined for Northern Ireland.

The man was taken to Carickmacross for questioning and was expected to
appear in court later.

Meanwhile, in an unconnected development, guns, cartridges and drugs have
been seized by police during a search at a house in Ballymena.

There were no arrests.
