DRUG LAW REFORM ADVOCATE ATTENDS MINISTERIAL COUNCIL

One of the leading advocates for drug law reform in Australia will take his
place among Health and Justice ministers at today's Ministerial Council on
Drug Strategy meeting in Melbourne.

ACT MLA Michael Moore, who has been made Health Minister in the Carnell
Government, has been a fierce campaigner for the now defunct heroin trial
in Canberra, and other harm-minimisation policies.

Mr Moore says while other ministers will be aware of his views, he is
confident he will not be treated as a drug law reform extremist.

"There's no doubt people around the table will know I've been a spokesman
for the Australian Parliamentary Group for Drug Law Reform," he said.

"But it's another view being brought to the table."
