LEGALIZED POT WILL CLOUD CONDO RULES

Re: Preparing for marijuana legalization, Aaron, Sept. 30

Smoking should be banned in condo buildings throughout Ontario. Bob
Aaron's column highlighted the problem for condo boards.

More families with children are choosing condos as an affordable
alternative to houses, especially in Toronto and other cities.

More than 80 per cent of the residents in these buildings do not
smoke. Yet, many have to suffer the smells and dangerous carcinogenic
fumes drifting through their doorways and venting systems. If you
cannot smoke in a car with children, how can you justify children
living in such an environment?

Yes, condo boards can pass bylaws, but are hesitant to take action due
to legal costs. This tension and stress could be relieved by extending
the nosmoking laws, including marijuana, to include multi-dwelling
residences. The government needs to do the right thing and extend the
ban to condo units.

Tens of thousands of Ontarians will appreciate such
legislation.

The introduction of legal marijuana will make a bad situation an
intolerable one.
