MUST BE 19 TO BUY WEED: WYNNE

Premier Kathleen Wynne says you'll have to be 19 years old to buy
legal weed in Ontario.

Wynne said Friday she can't see the age of majority to buy marijuana
being different than that of alcohol when pot is legalized next summer.

Wynne made the remarks days after discussing legalization with her
fellow premiers during a conference in Edmonton.

"I find it hard to imagine ... that we would have a different age or
certainly a lower age for the consumption of cannabis than for
alcohol," she said. "Nineteen is the age for alcohol, so I think we
would be looking at at least that."

Wynne also said Ontario's plan for marijuana legalization will have to
closely align with Quebec's framework.

The provinces share a border and different rules could push traffic
toward one or the other if rules were dramatically different.

"We have to be on the same page," Wynne said. "We have to find a way
to co-ordinate and harmonize our reactions and our regimes and
protocols on this."

Weed is set to become legal in July 2018 and the federal government
has tasked each province with coming up with its own regulations for
the substance.

The province launched a series of consultations on legalization last
week, gathering public feedback on the legal age to buy pot and the
appropriate vendor for marijuana.
