GOT IT WRONG

The editorial comment about a recent letter writer's article on
legalization of marijuana is off the mark.

First of all, booze was legal before and after prohibition. During
prohibition, organized crime saw a great opportunity to supply the
public with booze, and in doing so made phenomenal profits.

That aspect of organized crime diminished after prohibition. With
respect to marijuana, it is presently illegal, although you would
never know it by some comments, and organized crime undoubtedly has a
hand in the distribution of it.

With the legalization of marijuana, it is the fool who thinks
organized crime will be less involved. Organized crime today is more
sophisticated than in the '20s and will be heavily involved with the
growing and distribution of marijuana.
