POLICE BUST MARIJUANA DISPENSARY

CAMBRIDGE - Waterloo Regional Police drug officers closed down a
marijuana dispensary in Cambridge on Wednesday.

Police raided the storefront business at 184 Samuelson St. near Elgin
Street North at 1 p.m.

Police spokesperson Cherri Greeno said the illegal business did not
have an official name.

During the raid, police seized a large amount of marijuana, marijuana
products, a small amount of suspected cocaine and prescription pills,
including Xanax and Oxycocet.

A 29-year-old Cambridge man and a 21-year-old Cambridge woman were
arrested. Both face several charges, including possession for the
purpose of trafficking and possession of a controlled substance.

Police remind the public that the sale of marijuana, unless sold by a
business licensed by Health Canada, is against the law.

Police have raided at least two other marijuana dispensaries. On May
11, the KW Dispensary at 1421 Victoria St. N., near Lackner Boulevard,
was busted, and the Green Tree Medical Dispensary on King Street East
was raided in March. It reopened a month later but closed again after
warnings from police.

The federal government has said it wants to legalize recreational
marijuana use by July 2018, but until then the businesses are illegal,
police said.

Police would also like to encourage the public to report any unlawful
sale of controlled substances by calling 519-653-7700 or Crime
Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
