COMPROMISES HAD TO BE MADE ON POT BILL

Seeing some of the reaction to the Liberal government's proposed
legislation to legalize marijuana, you may think marijuana users are
unhappy with how things are unfolding. I don't think that's
necessarily true.

Although a majority of Canadians support legalization, there are many
who do not.

In order to make it acceptable to the widest number of Canadians, some
compromises have been made: age restrictions, impaired-driving
enforcement and carrying limits.

It is not unfettered legalization, but regulated, not unlike alcohol
and tobacco.

When all is said and done, any adult will be able to legally buy a
reasonable quantity of marijuana or grow a few plants suitable for
personal use. This is a huge change from the situation now and I welcome it.
