POLICE BUST MARIJUANA STORE

A Kingston man and woman have been charged by local police after
officers accompanied the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) on a
search warrant execution at 420 Kingston and a private residence on
Friday.

Sgt. Brad Brooker, of the Kingston Police street crime unit, said on
Saturday that the CBSA was the lead agency on the lengthy
investigation under the Customs Act and Plant Protection Act. The
search warrant was approved for the business located at 736 Princess
St. and the residence of the two accused on Ellesmere Avenue.

Officers from Kingston Police and CBSA entered the business at
approximately 11 a.m. Brooker said the Kingston Police left around 6
p.m. and CBSA were there till after midnight on Saturday.

While assisting the CBSA at the location, Kingston Police found large
quantities of marijuana in plain sight. As a result, they seized
nearly four pounds of marijuana in various forms of packaging with an
estimated street value of $20,000.

"We went in assisting CBSA, and then because there was marijuana found
we took over that part of the investigation, as they continued with
their part of the investigation," Brooker said.

A spokesperson for CBSA said the investigation is related to the
illegal importation of goods. A post on the 420 Kingston Facebook page
says the CBSA seized all of their seed products.

A 34-year-old man and 32-year-old woman were arrested by Kingston
Police and charged with possession of a controlled substance for the
purpose of trafficking.

Police report the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may
follow.
