WEED WORRIES WASTE IMPORTANT LAW ENFORCEMENT RESOURCES

Though some people regard the much talked about legalization of
marijuana as a grey area that's causing confusion on the streets, the
fact of the matter is it's still illegal unless you have a licence to
buy it or produce it.

Police must uphold the letter of the law, and that's exactly what
Waterloo Regional Police did by executing a search warrant at a
Kitchener dispensary operation and laying charges earlier this month.

Police officials cited the dispensary's location near a high school as
one reason for swooping in and making several arrests. They say they
don't know what's in the marijuana because it's not regulated.

But the reality is that marijuana laws are antiquated and it's high
time for the federal government to regulate it or get off the pot and
stop perpetuating double standards.

Sure, there are many concerns with how legalization is carried out.
There will no doubt be flaws, however, the rules governing pot will be
no different than those governing many other, more harmful substances
being sold on store shelves today.

Tweaks will be needed as we go. And, like most regulated products -
milk, eggs or sleeping pills - this one will be a work-in-progress.

One thing is certain - local law enforcement agencies have much better
things to do these days than worry about weed.
