Mayor: STOP BREAKING THE LAW

The law is law. And until it changes, Mayor John Tory said he supports
efforts by the Toronto Police to shut down marijuana
dispensaries.

Police this week executed a series of raids and arrested well-known
pot activists Marc and Jodie Emery.

Tory said not only is the illegal sale of weed a matter police should
deal with, he supports an injunction filed by city lawyers that
attempts to shut down a chain of dispensaries.

Tory said the city will argue that shops are violating city zoning
rules by illegally selling pot.

"(It's) a fact that marijuana is still illegal under the laws of
Canada," Tory said. "And, as such, we can't just have people selling
it on every street corner."

Last summer, after a series of raids were performed by police, Tory
cautioned dispensary operators to "hold their horses" and wait for the
new rules from the feds.

He did much the same Friday: "I don't know why anybody should seem
surprised in the marijuana business community when these actions are
undertaken, because they've been told very clearly by me as the mayor
.. (that) first of all we have to have respect for the law."
