COMMENTS ON POT DIFFER FROM OBSERVATIONS, FACTS

Larry Comeau's comments ("Challenges exist in legalization of pot," Dec.
27) regarding cannabis (marijuana) and Colorado's choice to relegalize the
plant differ from my observations and facts.

If anything, "organized crime" relating to cannabis in Colorado has
diminished, and that's an expected benefit to ending prohibition.

It's hard to fathom that cannabis "users will undoubtedly end up with the
same serious ailments as tobacco smokers," since in over 5,000 years of
documented use it hasn't killed one single person, while tobacco kills
over 1,000 North Americans daily.

There will always be opponents to ending cannabis prohibition, however
every subsequent poll indicates the majority of voters continue supporting
Colorado's cannabis laws.

Negligible "negative impacts of legalization" are dwarfed by the greater
benefits when forcing government to regulate the extremely popular
God-given plant rather than forcing the black market to regulate it.
