CANNABIS CANDIES NOT FOR CHILDREN: POLICE

Police forces are warning parents after a raid Tuesday night at the
Canna Leaf marijuana dispensary in downtown St. John's that the
cannabis candies and cookies seized are similar to what can be
purchased in regular stores in the province, but can be harmful to
children.

"They are infused with (THC) tetrahydrocannabinol, which is the
psychoactive constituent of cannabis," the Combined Forces Special
Enforcement Unit (CFSEU - NL) stated in a news release.

Members of the CFSEU-NL executed a search warrant at Canna leaf
Medical Dispensary around 10 p.m. Tuesday, which the release describes
as "an illegal marijuana dispensary in downtown St. John's."

A large amount of cannabis products, including marijuana and shatter,
was seized. Also seized were edibles infused with tetrahydrocannabinol,
commonly referred to as THC, such as brownies, cookies, gummy bears,
sour keys, lollipops, medicated bath fizz and oils, as well as a
vehicle and a large quantity of cash.

Four people were arrested and charges are pending under the Controlled
Drugs and Substances Act.

The CFSEU-NL points out in its news release the Controlled Drugs and
Substances Act prohibits possession, trafficking, import and export,
and production of controlled substances, including marijuana, unless
authorized by regulations, and neither the Marijuana for Medical
Purposes Regulations (MMPR) or any other Health Canada regulations
authorize licensed producers to provide marijuana for medical purposes
through a storefront.

"Health Canada lists all licensed producers on its website. Health
Canada does not authorize the operation of retail storefronts, such as
'compassion clubs' or 'dispensaries.' They are illegal," the news
release adds.
