COPS HELP CLOSE ILLEGAL POT SHOP

One of Ottawa's 17 illegal pot shops has been forcibly closed.

A bailiff arrived at the CannaGreen dispensary on Roydon Place
Wednesday to enforce an eviction order. The shop had continued
operating after an eviction notice was posted on the door Tuesday and
the locks were changed.

Ottawa police were on hand to help bailiff Doug Specht. A man inside
the store was led out in handcuffs. Police said a man was arrested for
trespassing, but no charges have been laid.

The landlord had been trying to evict CannaGreen for weeks, after
neighbouring businesses in the strip mall complained about the smell
and the customers it attracted. The landlord said he had no idea the
"medical dispensary" specified in the lease would be selling
marijuana. The lease contains a clause prohibiting illegal activities.

For three weeks the shop had been selling dried weed and
cannabis-laced cookies, candy and pop through a crude window carved
into the plywood that covers the front of the building, which was
demolished after a truck drove through it.

Police have sent letters to at least 13 landlords of marijuana
dispensaries, warning them about the consequences of allowing illegal
activities on their property. Police could take action under the
Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and landlords could even have
property seized, the letters said.
