ANSWER TO DRUG PROBLEM: DON'T GET STARTED

Re: "Overcoming addiction no simple matter," letter, Sept. 29.

The letter-writer would have us believe that it is very challenging to
overcome addiction to tobacco, alcohol, etc. He also informs us that
it is no simple matter, and more is involved than simply stopping.

However, he states it is arrogant for anyone to suggest the answer to
the problem is simply to quit. I think he is wrong, having quit
tobacco, stone cold, 45 years ago, and alcohol about 20 years ago.

The answer to the drug problem is: Don't get started. The education to
the dangers of any form of drugs should be in the schools from
kindergarten onward.
