RIGHTS TRIBUNAL NIXES COMPLAINT AGAINST MAYOR'S POT
COMMENT

Ottawa pot provocateur Russell Barth couldn't convince a human rights
tribunal to put the heat on Jim Watson over comments the mayor made in
April last year.

Barth was upset by a line Watson delivered during the controversy
surrounding Vanier vapour lounge BuzzOn, which lets people consume
their own pot on the premises if they pay a membership fee. The owner
promoted the business as somewhere for people with medical marijuana
licences to socialize.

Watson wasn't a fan of BuzzOn's arrival on Montreal
Road.

"If someone has a medical licence for marijuana, then please go and
use that product on your property in your own house, but please don't
bring it in an establishment where other people can be affected by the
second-hand smoke," he said.

Barth, a medical marijuana licence-holder, complained to the Human
Rights Tribunal of Ontario that Watson's comments were a form of
discrimination. The tribunal concluded the mayor didn't make any
negative remarks toward medical marijuana users.
