ADDICTS' LIVES MATTER

Re: Ottawa health centre plans injection-site consultations in April,
March 15.

David Reevely writes that Mayor Jim Watson continues to oppose even a
discussion on establishing a safe injection site in Ottawa. This in
spite of credible evidence that Vancouver's Insite, a safe injection
site, saves lives. A study by British medical journal The Lancet
concluded that Insite definitely saves many lives.

Granted, it would take courage for the mayor to change his position
and take a stance that has no upside politically. These unfortunate
addicts likely don't vote, but many die and will continue to die in
shameful numbers without a safe injection site. My late father liked
to say, "If it matters to somebody, it matters." Their lives matter to
me. Do they matter to Mayor Watson?
