THE CONS OUTWEIGH THE PROS ON POT

To the editor: Regarding the article, 'Pot problems pointed out',
February 26th Recorder and Times.

Having worked for many years enforcing Canada's drug laws, I could
not agree more with police chief Scott Fraser that the Trudeau
government should not be rushing to legalize pot.

It certainly will lead to more impaired drivers on the road with no
easy testing for impairment and more road deaths.

Studies consistently have shown those using pot, especially today's
which has a much higher level of Tetrahydracanibinol (THC), run an
increased risk of suffering psychosis and other mental problems later in life.

We cannot stop young people using alcohol and tobacco products; how
can we stop them using pot once it is legalized?

In Colorado very young people have gotten access to hash cookies,
etc. Everywhere pot has been legalized, organized crime has entered
the scene because of the huge profits. We all ready see this with cigarettes.

Obviously the border with the USA will be tightened, directly harming
our economy.

The government better look at the added cost of policing and
additional stress on our ailing healthcare system before rushing
ahead to fulfill this questionable election promise.
