COALINGA MEDICAL MARIJUANA VOTE

Apparently it is news when the Coalinga City Council votes to approve
a medical marijuana dispensary.

But it is not news when the council ignores the governing board of
the Coalinga-Huron Unified School District, which "joined community
leaders, faith-based organizations, parents and concerned citizens"
opposing the action due to it being "detrimental to our youth, to
public health, and to the safety of our society," and the
Coalinga-Huron Parks and Recreation district board, which also voted
in opposition.

Apparently it is news when the crowd that shows up for the most
recent meeting about medical marijuana is so large that the fire
department issues numbered tickets to limit the number of people in
attendance the large majority against the medical marijuana issue
(due to fire regulations) but not when petitions bearing over 500
signatures of local citizens opposing medical marijuana are presented
to the council and are ignored.

Apparently it is news when Coalinga's council is one of the few in
California that has voted to welcome medical marijuana but not that
the council ignored the recommendations of law enforcement and voted
to violate federal law.
