ALCOHOL, DRUG AWARENESS BRING ATTENTION TO PROBLEM

The war continues. The use of drugs and alcohol are prevalent to all
and have been an issue worldwide and in Chico for decades. Movements
to cure the consumption of drugs and alcohol have been started,
however it is near impossible to control all of humanity.

On Sept. 14, 1986, Ronald and Nancy Reagan made a speech that caught
the attention of many. The "Just Say No" campaign was to open the
eyes of all to the battle in society that is constantly hindering our
progress and successes.

Chico State is known as a "party school" when in reality, college
students party everywhere. The Chico Labor Day float has diminished
due to a death that happened a few years ago. There has also been
numerous hazing incidents. The misuse of alcohol and drug use must be
acknowledged and stopped.

We all unknowingly are being affected by drug/alcohol use and abuse.
Students everywhere must read this mind-altering reading of the video
made by the Reagans that day. This address to the nation will give
realizations to many. Is there really a way to regulate drug and
alcohol misuse? Unfortunately not. All we can do is continue raising awareness.

We are headed toward the destruction of the American dream. We have
this magnificent world around us that is being wasted because we are
turning to drugs and alcohol. Open your eyes and look around at this
wonderland we can call home.
