ALASKA CAN OVERCOME THREAT POSED BY SYNTHETIC STREET DRUGS

Spice has turned numerous Alaskans into the unbelieveable, into what
most consider fiction: zombies. Obviously, this shouldn't be taken
literally, but still seriously. The users are in a zombie-like state
due to the locally-available synthetic drug. Its effects are
life-impacting, engraving life long impairments into the smoker's
mind and body. From the violent and aggressive behavior that startles
spectators to the high blood pressure that kills, Spice in Alaska has
affected the lives of far too many. For example, between July 31 and
Aug. 13, the Anchorage Fire Department made about 110 medical
emergency runs related to Spice.

There needs to be another step taken. I strongly believe that instead
of primarily centering the attention on the sales of Spice, the
government should target the source of production instead. This would
assist Alaska tremendously, as not only will sales cease, but the
lives of many will be saved. A Spice task force should be developed
to act on this suggestion, while still paying attention to stopping
the Spice dealers. As one whole society, Alaska can overcome this
significant hazard to our way of living (literally).
