LEGAL POT

Re "Rolling in the green" (Aedan Helmer, Oct. 29): I could not help
but think of how the deals will soon begin under the Liberals. Was
there not something similar from the last time they were in power?

Here is an opportunity for our new prime minister to show us true
leadership and discredit what some said of his readiness. If he does
follow through on his pledge of legalizing recreational marijuana, let
the growers be First Nations. If all the growing and production is
regulated from properly certified First Nations' reserves, you will
avoid the conflict of interest when your liberal friends makes
millions from legalizing pot.

With great land, resources and need, this "Native Weed" strategy will
help support the campaign promise made of helping the aboriginal people.
His liberal friends can smoke their pot in the cities and at the same
time help a native reserve build infrastructure, schools, recreation
centres, homes and most importantly, anti-poverty.

(Probably a good idea to ask First Nations about whether they favour
such an arrangement first.)
