MEET THREE CANNABIS CLUBS, AND A SILVER SURFER SIDEKICK

Newly discovered clubs

Three cannabis clubs received licensing just before the
City-Council-enacted Sept. 22 freeze. Here's the scoop:

Former 420 Speakeasy owner Travis Perkins opened a Grateful
Dead-themed club called The Family Joint (125 N. Spruce St.) on Sept.
2. Located in the former Pho-N-Thai, the Joint features nightly
themed events, including karaoke, billiards and live music. Perkins
has changed the membership dynamic, though - his club's marijuana is
all free, and members pay monthly dues. It's more like a
gym-membership system, he says, than the reimbursement or
donor-points systems used by other clubs in the area. As such, the
club is more selective with its membership, though the application
form is only one page. Guests at the nearby Clarion Hotel and Holiday
Inn can visit for free. Five-dollar day passes are also available for
potential members.

Farther north, long-time Rockrimmon resident Zip Floppyjoints has
turned his long-running marijuana meet-up group, My Club 420, into a
brick-and-mortar club in a former Coffee and Tea Zone at 6628
Delmonico Drive, Suite A. Floppyjoints, otherwise known as Anthony
Robison, was already a friend and neighbor to the adjacent Cleats
Sports Bar, Momma Pearl's Cajun Kitchen and Yakitori #5 & Thai
Kitchen - he has menus for all three restaurants ready for members to
peruse. Ensuring another friendship, he's installed a $600 filtration
system to keep the neighboring USPS office smelling fresh. The club
soft-opened on Sept. 13, two days after getting its license, and
Floppyjoints will hold a grand opening on Halloween, featuring Aurora
indie pop band We Are Doom, rapper Phatty and comedian/host Vinsent Wilson.

On the westside, Canna Canyon (1507 W. Colorado Ave.) is currently
closed for remodeling. The club is due to open early next week.
