Crider Referenced: http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v15/n475/a08.html SUSPECTS SHOULD NOT HAVE ASSETS TAKEN I partially agree with the author of a recent opinion article ("Proposed law makes it easier to retain criminal assets," Aug. 21). Law enforcement and all professionals who put themselves in harm's way to protect the public must secure appropriate levels of funding through the appropriate channels. However, arbitrary seizure of assets taken from potentially innocent citizens who are never charged with a crime is no way to fund public safety. It is an unacceptable violation of the public trust and our constitutional principles. That's why I support Sen. Holly Mitchell's bill, SB 443, to rein in these abuses. Carl E.
