MEDICAL MARIJUANA PROTESTERS LIGHT UP AT POLICE HEADQUARTERS

Local medical marijuana users sparked up a "smoke-in" in front of
police headquarters on Monday to show their support for a local
dispensary that has been under police investigation.

Glenn Price, owner of Your Medical Cannabis Headquarters on Main
Street, said police have been harassing him over the past week for
filling medical marijuana prescriptions without a Health Canada licence.

"Winnipeg should have something like this that has easy access to
medicine, instead of jumping through federal government hoops," said
Price, who added he only serves customers with official medical documentation.

Under current federal regulations, only Health Canada-approved
producers can provide medical marijuana to patients with a valid
prescription. Distribution is done through the mail.

Winnipeg police declined to comment on the protest, but issued a news
release about regulations for distributing medical marijuana that
stressed the quality control standards of Health Canada licensed producers.

"I have the same testing equipment as the federal government," argued Price.

Since opening his store a few weeks ago, Price said he has served
more than 400 customers. While he temporarily suspended sales last
week after police asked him to do so, he promised he would be back in
business on Tuesday morning.
