LEGALIZING MARIJUANA

EDITOR: Ed Gogek ("Doctors don't back medical marijuana," Sunday) is
correct, "medical marijuana" is a sham. But to conclude that
marijuana prohibition should remain in effect is a sham as well.

Alcohol prohibition wasn't ended because of a societal need for
Granny's alcohol-laced cure-all. Bootleggers and drunks didn't write
the alcohol regulations either. But with marijuana, this is OK. Why?
Because political leadership is absent. Too many politicians are
clueless or have their heads in the sand when it comes to legalizing pot.

The reasons for ending marijuana prohibition are exactly the same as
the reasons for ending alcohol prohibition. And the legal structure
for regulating marijuana is the alcohol model that has been in place
for the past 80 years.
