FRESNO TOWN HALL SET ON MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION

Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom Comes to Fresno State to Discuss Marijuana Policy

Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom will join the ACLU of Northern California and
other local experts and officials in hosting a public forum on the
legalization of marijuana Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Fresno State's
North Gym Assembly Room.

Newsom chairs the Blue Ribbon Commission on Marijuana Policy and
Wednesday's forum will be the fourth public discussion held since the
release of an interim report by the commission earlier this spring.
Previous discussions, held in Los Angeles, Oakland and Humboldt
County, have concentrated on issues relating to youth, public safety
and potential economic impact in anticipation of a likely 2016 ballot
initiative to push for legalization.

The commission hopes to keep both voters and policymakers informed on
issues stemming from the legalization of marijuana. It identified
three areas for further analysis, including taxation and regulation,
which is what Wednesday's forum will focus on.
